JMS 220 Lab Assignment 1

There are many tools I would like to use to be a better writer. For example, I would say my vocabulary and use of professional language could be improved tremendously. In high school, I was never put in rigorous writing classes like some of my peers were so I was not taught some of the techniques they were. Although I know basic techniques, I have always been insecure about how I write because I never think I am doing it right. I think I could use a dictionary especially for this class and my writing classes in the future. Another tool I could improve on is to expand on my thoughts. When I write, I know what I am saying but it can be repetitive sometimes and not sound very clear. Sounding professional is another tool I would like to improve on because I do eventually want to write for a mass media company such as Kylie Cosmetics because it sounds like a perfect fit for me. To add on, with writing comes communication. For me, in order to sound professional and write well, I think it is important to use language and vocabulary to become more confident with public speaking. Like I stated earlier, I would like to be a part of a big company and that comes with being able to publicly speak and be confident when doing so. Lastly, I would like to use every style of writing I have not used before. In high school, the only style I used was MLA so I am very familiar with it. Last year, I used APA in my RWS 100 and 200 classes which I have never used before college. I would like to be more familiar with every style because there are so many to use in professional work and everyday writing. Can’t wait for a good semester to improve my writing!
